About Us/Recent Projects

Maestros Ventures is privileged to be providing professional engineering services in the Chicago metropolitan area since its formation in 2008.   We are collaborating with architects and owners within our primary areas of expertise, which include building systems design for Mechanical HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems.   Current/recent assignments include facility assessments and design of renovation and new construction projects for the Chicago Public Schools, University of Chicago Medical Center, City of Joliet/Illinois Department of Transportation, Public Building Commission of Chicago and the United Neighborhood Organization.

Joliet Multi-Modal Bus Building and Train Building

This new construction project, currently in design, includes design of Mechanical HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems for two buildings totaling approximately 20,000 sq. ft.  Heating Ventilation and cooling will be provided by rooftop units for each building.  Also included is a hydronic platform ice melting system for the 800 foot platform serving the METRA rail Heritage line.  We were designated for this City of Joliet/Illinois Department of Transportation assignment by Knight EA.

Murray Language Academy for Chicago Public Schools with STL Architects

This challenging renovation project, currently under construction, includes replacement of 20 classroom steam heating chilled water cooling unit ventilators, installation of gymnasium AHU (with cooling capability), integration of new 80 ton chiller into existing chiller loop and replacement of building and toilet exhaust fans.  All modified/new mechanical systems were integrated into a 10 year old building automation system.

CT Scan/Spectrometer for University of Chicago Medical Center with Architrave

This project, in bidding stage, includes modification of existing Mechanical, Electrical and Structural systems in order to accommodate installation/replacement of two CT Scan/Spectrometer machines into the Mitchell Hospital at the Medical Center in Hyde Park.  Electrical work includes power distribution for the two 480V machines.  Mechanical work includes modification of base building heating/cooling to accommodate new equipment heat rejection.  Structural work includes analysis and design of reinforcement required for structural loads imposed by new equipment.

Doolittle/Chi-Arts  for Chicago Public Schools with Wallin Gomez Architects

Extensive renovation of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems totaling over $1,000,000 in construction cost.  Project included replacement of boys and girls bathrooms on two levels; installation of split system heating/cooling for four (4) administrative areas;  major upgrade of power distribution throughout the building, design of replacement  fire alarm system and new generator system for east and west buildings on Doolittle campus; modification of Mechanical systems for conversion of gymnasium to three dance studios.  Project included installation of three new science laboratories with chemical waste plumbing systems and modified ventilation.  Also, major changes to interior and exterior lighting systems were included, including new stage lighting for east and west buildings on Doolittle campus.

Haas Park and Humboldt Park Addition for Public Building Commission

Maestros, as the lead consultant, provided disciplinary review of AOR team construction documents at 60%CD and 90%CD for two projects for the Public Building Commission of Chicago.  We were designated this assignment by Rise Group-Arcadis:  responsibilities included review of all architecture, civil, landscape, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.  Our team provided ‘fresh eyes’ and valuable insight to the respective AOR teams for both projects.

Juarez High School for Chicago Public Schools with FGM Architects

This project included installation of new culinary academy with full kitchen and renovation of science laboratories.  Mechanical systems work included modification of base building HVAC, installation of kitchen hood with up-blast exhaust fan make-up air unit.  Plumbing work included renovation of boys and girls toilet rooms and addition of drinking fountains throughout the three level building.  Electrical work included new power distribution, lighting and data for three computer laboratories.

CPS – O’Keeffe Elementary & UNO – St. Scholastica High School

While these projects were for different clients, both included extensive assessment of mechanical , electrical and plumbing systems.   Life safety issues were identified and placed on fast track recommendation lists.  Expected remaining lifespan of major equipment, including incoming electrical service, boilers and air handlers was determined.   The outcome of the assessments was intended to establish eventual short term and long term scope of mechanical upgrades.   For the UNO project, the assessment was helpful in establishing parameters in lease negotiations and eventually helped lead to their decision to negotiate a long term lease with the owner of St. Scholastica High School.

The founder of Maestros, Michael W.
